PRIDE OF NAPA:  OAKVILLE WINEGROWERS OAKVILLE CUVEÉ

In the very heart of the Napa Valley lies the town of Oakville. Once a steam train stop in the late 1800’s, Oakville owes its name to the dense groves of native oak which once blanketed the area. One hundred years later, the Oakville name is synonymous with excellence in winemaking. A unique combination of soil, topography and climate join together here, creating an environment that makes Oakville a viticultural treasure. But the proof of Oakville’s status as a world-class grape-growing region is the number of great Napa Valley wineries that have planted their vineyards here. While Mother Nature has provided the key ingredients, a group of Vintners and Growers who are dedicated to crafting the highest quality of wine from the Oakville soil have emerged.  Among the current members are BOND, Far Niente, Dalla Valle, Gamble Family, Harlan, Morlet Family, Opus One, Paradigm, Peter Michael, Robert Mondavi, and Screaming Eagle.

Each year since 2005, the acclaimed member wineries of the Oakville Winegrowers Association have contributed small lots of their finest Cabernet Sauvignon to blend a micro-production of 50 double magnums and 100 magnums of the Oakville Cuveé. The Cuveé offers the collector an extraordinary opportunity to experience the best of Napa Valley’s premiere growing region. There is no other wine that equally represents the spirit of an appellation and the camaraderie of its vintners. Each bottle is etched and numbered, a beautiful and rare addition to any wine cellar.

The 2005 initial offering was crafted by Heidi Peterson Barrett, one of the most influential of Napa winemakers.  Over the years she has been responsible for some of California’s most notable cult wines: Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Paradigm Winery, Grace Family Vineyards, and her most recent venture, Amuse Bouche.  The year 2005 provided a long, dry growing season without extreme heat—conditions in which flavors and tannins ripened slowly and completely without raisining of the fruit or plunging acidity levels.

Includes:

  • 1 – 3L 2005 Oakville Winegrowers Oakville Cuveé
Etched and numbered 34 of 100; In original wooden crate

LOVING THE LOIRE

Finding a job in the wine business is not easy but in 2001, Eric Solomon of European Cellars took a chance on a young man with little experience and made him Director of Operations.  Before long, Jon-David Headrick was General manager of the company.  He then struck out on his own and created a portfolio of wines from the Loire Valley and Champagne, two regions with which he had long been intensely passionate.  Perhaps destiny, in 2013 the two portfolios came back together under the umbrella of European Cellars.

When founded in 2005, Jon-David Headrick Selections was named “Best New Specialist Importer” by Wine and Spirits magazine as well as “Wine Importer You Can Trust” by Slate magazine.  Headrick’s work has been featured in French media outlets Radio France, La Nouvelle Republique and TV Tours as well as American publications such as the Washington Post, Food and Wine magazine and many others.  In 2010, the French government appointed Jon-David a Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Merite Agricole, one of the highest civilian awards given by the government of France.  The rank of Chevalier (knight) is a lifetime appointment and is given to acknowledge outstanding service to French agriculture.

Jon-David will regale you with stories of the vineyards as you enjoy his wines of great purity and minerality.  Your evening will include a broad cross-section of wines from his portfolio perfectly paired with Bricco’s award-winning cuisine.  It will be an evening-long remembered.

WHERE SOIL MEETS SOUL

Led by a passion for authenticity and a deep connection to the land they call home, Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges and the Hedges Family epitomize the modern wine estate.  A blend of rich cultural upbringing and a shared love for creating beautiful wine converge at the heart of the bucolic Red Mountain, fostering a true homegrown approach to farming and viticulture.  Hedges Family Estate unites past and present, evolving tradition for generations to come.

This year’s Tres Bonne Annee honorees, Anne-Marie and Tom have dug deep into their collection of library wines for the Patrons’ Party.  The 2007 Hedges Family Estate Red Blend is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Red Mountain.  The wine exhibits dark, concentrated black cherry, blackberry and cassis notes.  The fruit is seamlessly integrated with oak aromas of toast, clove, spice, licorice and notes of smoke and caramel.  2007 was a great vintage for Red Mountain and the wines will be long lived.

The Hedges Family Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 80% Cabernet with 7% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Franc and traces of Petit Verdot.  Only 1800 six-packs were produced.  The wine exhibits entertaining aromas of bright blackberry and cherry with black licorice, fresh leather, earth, cinnamon and clove.  There are hints of coffee, dark cocoa, and a touch of vanilla.  It is a powerful Cabernet that offers grip and elegance with elongated tannins.

LUXURY IN THE LOIRE

Old world villages and storybook chateaux bedeck the Loire, once fought over by Gauls, Romans, Visigoths and even Attila the Hun.  Rent bikes and roll through the lush valley, visiting fortresses in Amboise and Angers, the Chartres Cathedral and the Gothic Cathedral in Nantes.  Musée Jules Vernes houses replicas of inventions designed by the futuristic author.  Pay your respects to the other former residents: the Romans in Tours, the cave dwellers of Touraine and the liberator of Orleans, Joan of Arc.

Most importantly, visit for the wine and food.  You’ll enjoy seven wonderful days of touring and tasting in the Loire Valley as you visit the producers represented by Verity Wine Partners.  The wines reflect the terroir defined by a massive swath of chalk and slate that runs from the Atlantic Ocean through the Loire river valley and into Champagne.  The “chalk line” produces wines of incredible purity, minerality and soul.  The vast majority of the properties you’ll visit practice organic and biodynamic viticulture, harvest by hand and use indigenous yeasts.

You will begin your journey at the Hotel Famille Bourgeois located in the small village of Chavignol.  This charming hotel is the ideal place for discovering Chavignol cheeses and Sancerre wines. Both the bistro and the restaurant serve only the best local produce.  This hotel features a gourmet restaurant and bistro, and is surrounded by beautiful and idyllic countryside. You will have the opportunity to explore the forests, lakes, and vineyards stretching down to the River Loire.

Next you will travel to The Loire Valley Retreat, a small luxury villa nestled in the Chinon countryside, founded 1429.  The atmosphere is luxurious, intimate, relaxed and friendly where you will find peace and tranquility combined with warm hospitality.  The romantic ambiance will provide a wonderful respite for you to unwind, refresh and recharge for the next day’s activities.

IT’S PRONOUNCED WILL-AM-ETTE, DAMN IT

The verdant Willamette Valley is Oregon’s most prestigious viticultural area and home to virtually all of its top wineries. Abundant rainfall, (most, but not all of it in the winter when the wines are dormant) and cool temperatures (thanks to air blowing from the Pacific ocean) make for a climate often compared to Burgundy, France. It should come as no surprise then, that Oregon’s specialty is Pinot Noir, a delicate and temperamental grape considered by many to make the most sensual red wine in the world. Pinot Gris (Grigio) is an up and coming Oregon white, delicious and an immensely food-compatible wine. Oregon’s cool, marginal climate is a major factor in the elegance that characterizes these wines.

This lot features tours at a virtual Hall of Fame of Oregon Pinot Noir producers. Compare and contrast as you visit the wineries whose quality has thrown down the gauntlet to the rest of the world for the term “Best Pinot Noir.”

You will enjoy this trip in the lap of luxury at your home base. The Allison Inn and Spa in Newberg is Oregon’s quintessential wine country lodging. Less than an hour’s drive beyond Portland, view snowcapped mountain ranges, rolling hillsides, working vineyards and agricultural farmlands. You may also view the Allison’s private collection of over 500 original works from 100 Oregon artists on display throughout the resort’s public areas and in all accommodations.  A 107-page exhibition catalogue is placed in each room to enhance your experience.

Includes:

  • Two rooms for five nights at the luxurious Allison Inn and Spa
  • VIP tour and tasting for four at Colene Clemens Vineyards
  • VIP tour and tasting for four at Privé Vineyard including 1 ½ hours with owners and winemakers Mark and Tina Hammond, a vineyard tour, wine tasting and offering of club only wines, a lovely appetizer pairing and if the timing is proper, a barrel tasting of the current vintage – one bottle each of our two estate pinots, to be received at the winery.

SMACKDOWN IN STADIUM KITCHEN AT BRICCO

Bill Kohl is turning the Bricco kitchen into his own version of the Iron Chef Competition. Five couples will take the challenge under the guidance of their host, Bill himself. The afternoon will begin with an educational tasting seminar where you will taste all the most important grapes produced in Piedmonte. The tasting will include a primer on proper wine and food pairing principles along with a pairing seminar to illustrate enjoyable and not-so-enjoyable combinations. You will learn the basics of how wine and food go together gracefully.

After your tasting, you will be paired into two culinary teams and we’ll “let the competition begin.” The Bricco chefs will provide a mystery market basket and each team will prepare a four-course family style Italian dinner to be paired with your chosen wines.

Before the winners are chosen, you will enjoy the fine food you and your competitors have prepared and served by the Bricco staff.  If you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

Unique Limousine and the Salinger family will ensure your complete enjoyment and safety with luxury limousine service for you and your guests.

NEW YEAR’S EVE AT YOUR PLACE WITH THE FAMILY BILLECART

Billecart-Salmon is a high quality, medium sized Champagne house located in Mareuil-sur-Ay, France.  Billecart-Salmon is the oldest continuously family-owned Champagne House.  The house is now 200 years old having been founded in 1818 shortly after Nicolas Francois Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon married.  It is notable that the house is one of the few that have remained family owned throughout its history.  Since its inception, seven generations have succeeded each other in running the house.  Motivated by a shared passion for wine, from vine to glass, each member of the family has brought their own personal touch to the house while always maintaining a visionary approach of giving utmost priority to quality and excellence.

Billecart-Salmon was ranked tenth among major Champagne houses by the Revue du vin de France.  A magnum of Cuvee Nicolas-Francois Billecart 1959 won first place in judging for the Champagne of the Millenium when judged amongst 150 of the finest 20th century Champagnes.  The magnum later sold for $3000.

This lot allows you to enjoy the breadth of quality and style that is represented by the Billecart portfolio.  Enjoy!  It’s always the right time for bubbly.
